Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of the Internet space. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in Social and Political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She has been interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality at a young stage of her life. In 2009, when she was in university she launched her Feminist Frequency website. It was a girl with a dream to develop a series of web videos to examine the gender representations in games. However, she became the target of cyber-bullying. The woman was not stopped from the attack, and in fact it only reinforced her determination to be feminist and media critic. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in popular culture of today.
