Madekwe was born into a mixed ethnic family. She has a father who is Nigerian as well as Swiss, while her mom is English. She was raised on the South London Council Estate. She attended The Brit School aged 14. She studied acting in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. She appeared on stage in many productions while attending school including King Henry V, as Princess Katherine, and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe started her acting career through the film Storm Damage. Since then she's made guest appearances in films like Teachers, Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's breakout came with 2007's Woody Allen movie Cassandra's Dream. It was co-starring Colin Farrell (who played the role of Cassandra) as well as Ewan McGrath. The film's success resulted in her being cast as Elisha as a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot, then appear in six episodes Trexx and Flipside in the role of Ollie. In 2008, she was offered the Bambi part on the ITV2 Drama series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. The actress was on the series 2 and 3. Madekwe was a star in the comedy of 2008 How to Alienate and Lose Friends. A couple of her credits on stage include Little Sweet Thing (by Roy Williams) as well as Flight Path (by David Watson).
Madekwe was cast as Ashley Davenport on the ABC show The Beautiful Life. The two-episode drama aired just two weeks on The CW and then it was cancelled. Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actor who was raised by an extended family. Her parents were Patty and Roy Leggat. Her parents Roy and Patty, as well as the four brothers of her, Brett, Todd, and Bram, were all present. Ashley's siblings, who are all sportsmen, played baseball in summers and played hockey during winter. Ashley could not walk but was able to dance. In the end, as she grew older, she discovered Baby Ballet. This was the beginning of Ashley's passion for dance.
